Increasing demand for e-learning system cloud services (Moodle, Totara Learn)
After going through the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand for e-learning systems (supported by a learning management system [LMS]) has increased even more. And recently, due to the stable operation of cloud services and improvements in security, there has been an increase in outsourcing system infrastructure for both new and migration purposes in order to reduce costs.
This time, we will introduce the background of cloud migration and the cloud package for e-learning system, "e-CoreLea".

Background of the Growing Use of Cloud-based e-Learning Systems
With the increasing trend of IT transformation in internal business, and the widespread adoption of cloud technology, we often receive inquiries about migrating our previously on-premises (in-house operation) LMS to the cloud, or implementing a new one on the cloud. One of the main reasons companies want to use cloud technology is to reduce running costs after implementation. While on-premises environments offer high confidentiality, they also come with the challenge of having to cover server purchase and maintenance costs, as well as associated personnel expenses, internally, which can lead to significant cost inflation.
These challenges are faced whether introducing a new system or already having a system in place. I believe that many companies and educational institutions (such as universities) are facing these challenges, so it is worth considering outsourcing the system infrastructure to the cloud to solve them.
At Human Science, we have been supporting our customers by providing support for cloud migration and launching new services for companies and educational institutions facing these challenges. This time, we would like to introduce one of those services, "e-CoreLea".
What is the cloud-based e-learning system "e-CoreLea"?
In line with the recent shift to cloud environments, our company has launched a cloud-based LMS service called "e-CoreLea" starting from May 2016.
"e-CoreLea" is a SaaS type LMS cloud service that can be learned online, and you can choose from two open source LMS (moodle, Totara Learn) according to your usage form. This service includes server operation and maintenance (version upgrade, backup, maintenance). In addition, based on our past implementation experience, we also provide support services for LMS usage and utilization during operation.

About the open source LMS provided by "e-CoreLea"
(moodle, Totara Learn)
At "e-CoreLea", we offer two LMS, Moodle and Totara Learn. Moodle is a well-known LMS used widely in the education industry. On the other hand, Totara Learn is an e-learning system mainly designed for corporate use.
Therefore, Totara Learn not only has the learning functions of Moodle, but also includes features such as organizational information management, training functions, and team management, which are necessary for corporate talent development.
Both LMS have a wide range of features, making them able to meet various customer needs.
In addition, both Moodle and Totara Learn, which are open source, are widely used around the world, making it possible to use them securely with frequent bug fixes and vulnerability responses.
For those who are considering building a new e-learning system on the cloud.
For those who are already operating an LMS internally but are considering migrating to the cloud due to operating costs.

Bonus: The Origin of "e-CoreLea"
The naming of products and services is one of the important elements as it is what conveys to the customers. So, let me introduce how the service name was decided.
When considering service names at our company, the basic ideas are:
・The service should be easy to understand as a service for e-Learning
・The service should become the foundation and core for our customers when using e-Learning
These are the two main points!
Here, we came up with the term "Core Learning" by playing on the second foundational system. This "e-CoreLea" was born by combining Core Learning and e-Learning. Looking back, it's quite simple.
